Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, relies on the use of water of varying temperatures to facilitate the healing process. Hydrotherapy may include hot and cold showers, foot baths, contrast bath therapy, as well as the time spent in saunas and steam rooms.

STC is a hydrotherapy clinic designed to provide several types of water therapy services. Our experienced team has worked with a number of clients who have greatly facilitated from adding hydrotherapy to their recovery plan and we are happy to do the same for you. For more information on how exactly this approach can help in your case, feel free to get in touch with one of our physiotherapy professionals. We’ll listen about your issues, invite you to consult in-person and advise on the best hydrotherapy treatment for your specific case.

    About Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy involves the use of hot and cold water, both being beneficial for improving blood flow:

    • Cold water proved to affect the constriction of superficial blood vessels, re-directing the blood away from the surface of the body to the organs.
    • Hot water expands the superficial blood vessels, activates the sweat glands and ultimately helps remove the waste from body tissues.

Depending on your physical state and issues you are recovering from, we apply either hot or cold water therapy. In some cases, hydrotherapy treatment may involve the combination of the two because it helps decrease inflammation and stimulate lymphatic drainage and circulation.

What we can do for you

SportsTec Clinic continually works on improving our facilities so that they can meet the needs of diverse clients. Today, we can proudly say that we are the go-to provider of hydrotherapy in Canberra that has equipped its centre with the elements necessary to provide adequate space for hot or cold water therapy.

At STC, our physiotherapy professionals introduce hydrotherapy either as an individual or an additional service when we believe that it can greatly benefit the recovery process. So far, it has proved effective for the treatment of:

Osteoarthritis – After a few weeks of undergoing hydrotherapy, our patients reported feeling better in terms of pain and mobility.
Rheumatoid arthritis – In combination with the right medication and physiotherapy exercises, water therapy can have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Sports Injury and general athletic recovery – We recommend hydrotherapy to both our patients who are recovering from an injury and those who wish to rehabilitate after an extensive exercise or sports match.

Buoyancy.  This reduces impact, making walking and movement of injured limbs easier
The resistance of the water can be used to increase muscle strength and endurance as well as cardiovascular fitness.  Use of paddles, pool noodles and water weights can further increase the resistance
Safe and challenging environment to improve balance
Warmth and hydrostatic pressure.  This can help to reduce swelling, improve circulation, reduce muscle spasm and joint stiffness and overall improve mobility.
