As access to gyms, pools and usual methods of exercise are reduced to aid in managing the COVID-19 outbreak, now is a great time to mix up your usual exercise routines and turn to alternative forms of exercise including running, cycling, and home gym plans to keep fit and healthy. Physical activity is incredibly important for keeping a healthy immune system, maintaining strength and cardiovascular fitness. Being active helps reduce the risk of illness and improves recovery.
With large increases or changes in physical activity, there is an increased risk of injury to soft tissues including muscles and tendons. If you are rapidly increasing the overall amount of exercise or trying something completely new this risk climbs higher still. It is also important to note that if you have had an extended break from your usual activity (for example taking a holiday or spending 2 weeks inside your house) then it is important to ease your way back into your normal training routine.
If you are looking to maintain your fitness and conditioning in the current environment, or would like some help in adjusting to a new sport or form of exercise, we can help you plan and manage your workload appropriately to build your fitness and stay injury free. If you are hoping to stay conditioned or manage an injury before sport returns we can help with programming and rehabilitation needs as well.
